| Established in 1932, The Polly Tea Rooms in Marlborough have become known as one of the best privately owned tea rooms England.
|
|
| Polly's exact origins have become clouded with rumours and speculation. Some say the name comes from the nursery rhyme “Polly put the kettle on…”, others say it was named after a parrot owned by the two ladies who started it. One favoured theory is that the Polly was named after Polly Peacham from the Beggars Opera, this is, apparently the explanation given by the founding ladies Miss Janet McCloud (one of the original Suffragettes) and Miss Jean Leith Hay.
